A city sits alone at the edge of a dark forest. Unarmed and helpless against the threats that surround them, the city's inhabitants have resigned themselves to the fate predicted by their leader, that their city will soon be destroyed. But by who? Will it be the forest dwellers living in the woodlands just beyond, or the dark creature that stalks the trees bent on their destruction? Only one man can save them. But has he come too late. So much of life is ordinary and commonplace. We work, play sports, eat, watch TV, and get wrapped up in the events of the day to day, and slowly we forget that those things are just the things people do with their time, not the things people really live for. And that’s why I love the written word so much. When I read an amazing poem, or get wrapped up in a beautiful novel, I remember that life is something more than what I have been living, and I’m convinced once again to live my life to the full. Henry David Thoreau once said, “When we are unhurried and wise, we perceive that only great and worthy things have any absolute and permanent existence, that petty fears and petty pleasures are but the shadow of reality.”

That is the feeling I try and capture in my writing, the perception that great and worthy things really do exist in the world to be found, that we ought to fight for them. I hope when you read the blog, you feel that same way.
